Today I was sitting in traffic and as one does, I was thinking about how great cars with buttons are. Then I looked lovingly at my Jag’s center console. Then I decided to count the number of buttons.
For these purposes, I’ve counted anything electrical that is operated by depressing the switch with one finger.
Center console: buttons 1-51
Roof panel and mirror dimmer: buttons 52-60
Right steering wheel controls: buttons 60-64
Left steering wheel controls: buttons 65-68
Left dash controls: buttons 69-71
Right dash controls: buttons 72-75.
Left stalk: button 76
Right stalk: button 77.
Center clock: buttons 78 and 79.
J-Gate: buttons 80 and 81.
Driver’s door controls: buttons 82-92.
Passenger doors: buttons 93-95.
Read seat center console: buttons 96 and 97.
Rear seat reading lights: buttons 98 and 99.
Trunk-mounted CD changer: button 100.
Not pictured: buttons 101-106: front seat controls.

Damn, Dude. How long was that traffic jam?

funny you say this. Tesla pulled up next to me at the light. They migrated all your buttons into one touchscreen
That Big Screen Cinema is ridiculous.

No wonder people have so many issues with Jags, It must be hard to keep your electronic fluid topped off with all those buttons leaking it out all the time.

One thing I thought of, but forgot to add, is that I wouldn’t trade even one of those 106 buttons for a touch screen.

Well, during the initial traffic jam, I only did a rough count that came to about 80. It was only later that I decided to document everything.

I should be able to downgrade my touchscreen for more buttons.
My current car has touchscreen for radio/gps/climate control
I miss my buttons

I’ve removed the spare and now I just use that space to hold electric and blinker fluid.

More buttons is always an upgrade.

Now I miss the rear fogs lights my Jag had, BMW what’s wrong with you?

Well, at least you weren’t doing something distracting while driving, like texting. :)

Well, that was a quick reminder of why I never liked any Jaguars between the mid 90's through about 3yrs ago.

*Bins
Fun fact: the XJ8 was the last Jag to be entirely assembled in Coventry.

I seriously considered getting an XJR of this generation, because clearly I have no sense other than a good sense of taste in long and low British sedans.

Complexify and add features :)
That said, nice-looking whip!

By your rules I made 29, and 14 of those were on the aftermarket head unit.
2/29 of those buttons operates a feature that is non functional.
Touchscreens in cars are a terrible idea for the most part.

There are a few on my center console that aren’t functional, since mine wasn’t optioned with the carphone and GPS (not a day goes by that I’m not thankful to have a center storage box instead of a circa 2000 carphone and primitive GPS)

Each two-way rocker switch counts as two buttons!

I have 72. It’d be much more if BMW hadn’t smartly made the buttons under the radio contextual.

I love all of the buttons on the radio in my Mazda5. I once replaced the radio with something with a big LCD screen, but ended up going back to the factory radio for all of the buttons and knobs.
In some ways I want the interior of my car to look like this:
Never enough gauges, switches or lights...

I still drool every time I see XJR. I tell my wife how badly I want one. She says get one. I say Ford and walk away with my head below my shoulders. She doesn’t understand
